Last week Kenley turned FOUR! *gasp* It seems like both yesterday and a lifetime ago that she was born. I remember the day she was born so clearly - facetiming my dad in Arkansas between contractions, nurse Jenny's blind date game to find me a nurse as her replacement, wondering if we remembered to record "Smash" that night, the nurses talking about weird baby names during my epidural, and talking about Grey's Anatomy right before my c-section. But as much as it seems like yesterday, it also seems like forever ago! So many things have happened since then - leaving my job to stay home with my kids, deaths of friends and family, and adding a new life (Eleanor) to ours.
Having Kenley enter our family has been such a blessing! She makes our days so much more fun, crazy, and teaches me each day. She's taught me about love, patience, and fun!
She loves all things space, all things Peanuts, and loves crafts. She prefers to have "crazy hair" (no ponytails, braids, headbands, etc.), loves cooking, hates trying new foods, and collects brochures. It takes her a while to warm up to new people but she excels in small group situations, and is the nicest most sweetest little human to her friends. She loves One Direction and Carly Rae Jepson, is a daddy's girl, and is incredibly imaginative. She thinks Eleanor is hilarious, loves purses, and might be a nudest granola hippie. She was born a vegan, rarely wears clothes, and hugs trees (seriously). Also, she is the best!
For the day of her 4th birthday *gasp* we did what we always do, start the day off with donuts, balloons, and presents. Traditionally, we go to Denny's for brunch (remember my crazy love for Grand Slams?) but I couldn't tear my kid away from playing with new toys so we did brunch at home.
| 4 years old = 4 donuts & 4 candles |
| Found her sleeping on the ground with no pjs on |
| Who doesn't want to start their birthday with gifts?! |
| I made her put on pjs so we could take photos. |
| She is super into maps and puzzles. |
| We got this gift for a friend's birthday and she CRAZY wanted one so... |
| Watching big sis open presents. She was quickly out of the chair playing with them. |
| Playing under her birthday balloons. 4 years old = 4 plain balloons & 1 mylar |
| When you are 4, you get Charlie Brown brunch. |
After Eleanor took a nap we headed over to Discovery Cube! I'm not sure how we took almost zero photos but the girls had a blast. And we got a membership so we can go back again and again and again!
| As close as we get to snow angels in Los Angeles. |
| "I'll meet you at the top of the coconut tree." |
| She super wanted to play this hockey game in the LA Kings section but then made daddy do it. |
| Me and my mini on the wall after our grocery shopping simulation. |
| Kenley cougar? Or some other mountain cat? |
We ended the day with pizza and ice cream. No one in our family really likes cake (we're a bunch of weirdos) but everyone in our family LOVES ice cream. So ice cream with candles it was!
| This was the first year she let someone sing "Happy Birthday" to her without tears! But only one person was allowed to sing - me. Baby steps. |
| Quick before it melts! |
| 4 looks good on her. |
As bittersweet as it is, watching this little human grow has been so much fun! Let's just slow down a tiny bit okay kid?
| LOVE THIS KID THAT MADE US PARENTS. |
