Putting On My Swimsuit, Hairy Legs and All

In the past two weeks, my family has spent a lot of time in the water. We beached, we pooled, we splash padded, we splash padded again, and then we water parked. That's A LOT of swimsuit time. Not just for the little ones, but for me too. And guys, I am nowhere near my "ideal" swimsuit body. I've got love handles, chunky thighs, translucent pale skin, and often stubbly legs. Just to name a few. But when it comes to having fun with my kids, I don't care. See, the thing is (and I've seen a few other articles like this), when my kids are having fun, I'm having fun! I forget that I don't look like Allessandra Ambrosio. My kids don't care that I don't look like a Victoria Secret model, and that I look like I have a pregnant pooch even though I'm not pregnant. They aren't going to remember that my legs were hairy when we went to Hurricane Harbor as a family. What they will remember from our summer days, is that I put on my swimsuit and let them bury me in the sand, cannon balled into the pool, and went down the water slides with them (even though I scraped my bum and broke my toe)

We've had some of the best summer days lately. And honestly, if I didn't put on my swimsuit, they wouldn't have been nearly as fun. Mama friends (and Dada friends), I urge you to put on yours too! Put your swimsuit on when your kids are little. Because in another 10 years, they may not want to hang out with their mom at the beach. But until that time comes, I'm putting on my swimsuit.

Maybe next year I'll have a "beach body". But if I don't, I don't care. I'm still putting one on.

Some photos from our recent water days. Not many of me in my swimsuit though, as I am usually the one taking the photos.

BEACH - Will Rogers State Beach (Malibu, CA)

Nakey Barbie!

Quintessential getting buried in the sand.

Playing nicely! Had to be documented.

According to Kenley, you cross your legs when you are angry. She was mad she had to hang with the babies for a few minutes before going down to the waves.

No fear! Even Eleanor has decided she is too old to hold my hand! GASP!

I breed beach lovers.

California Kids.

Trying to get 3 little ones to look at the camera. Real Life.

Thanks for beaching with us Lauren and Amelia!

That awesome age where she can help drag all the stuff.

FRIEND'S POOL - Santa Clarita, CA

Poolside with my mini.

Playing "Get the Crab"!

She's more of a "dip my toes in the pool" kinda gal.

Best Friends Noodling.

"Where we off to next mama?"

Splash Pad - Sylmar Park (Sylmar, CA)

Splash hoarder.

Probably my least favorite Splash Pad but she loved it. All that matters.

So much happiness!

Nakey Rapunzel.

Sisters and Rainbows. Love.

Spash Pad - Pacific Park (Glendale, CA)

How we do hot days in the summer. And free!

A CLOTHED Barbie! Miracle.

Weird how she's one of the "big" kids now.

E - I'll just sit in the middle. I'm to cute for someone to tell me to move.

Six Flags Hurricane Harbor (Valencia, CA)

Castaway Cove! The little kids area. SO FUN!

Puddle Jumper Posers.

"See Mom! It's not scary! It's fun!"

Brave K.

Mostly she wanted to eat. But between snacks, she also went down the slides.

Lounging poolside, with a snack of course.

Wet hair, no makeup, don't care.

Basically she kills poolside.

Little Ranchers

Did you know there there is an adorable, historic, and some say haunted (spoooooky), little ranch in Calabasas, CA? Do you think the Kardashians go there? Do you think Mason wins miniature lizards, North makes adobe bricks, and Penelope scrubs the laundry? Well, I don't know if they do, but the Simpson kids do!

Last week we went with some friends to the Leonis Adobe Museum for opening day of their "Lil' Ranchers Days". It was GREAT! They had a western scavenger hunt, lots of crafts, a live band, storytime, animal feeding areas, lessons on how people washed clothes in the "olden days", etc. I think some of it was over my almost two and four year old's heads but they loved it! And I think they want to live on a ranch now. And ride a horse. And wrangle cattle. So...where in the city can I sign Kenley up to be a mutton buster?!

She said she'd take the white one. I don't think these are for sale K.

This kid lasso'd the bull on her second try! Better than the big kids I saw. No big deal.

Making adobe bricks.

Don't let her face fool you, she loved this chore! I mean, activity.
A little tree painting fun! This was probably my least favorite thing though, only because the lady working got angry she put brown paint on the part that is supposed to be green. Gimme a break lady, she's four. Also, ART!
Laundry time!

Wringing it out.

Feeding some sheep. Eleanor was too scared to do this.

She had no problem pumping water from the well though!

Best friends at the Sagebrush Cantina (restaurant next door). Note: They give a "Buy an adult entree, get a kids meal free" deal! Yes please! Next time I think I'll get a margarita with my enchiladas. 'Cause watching my kids do ranch chores is exhausting.

Happy (Late) Birthday Sweet Land of Liberty!

I hope you all had a wonderful Independence Day last week! I have always been a lover of holidays, and if I had all the money, our place would be embarrassingly decorated for each of them. No really, EVERY holiday. And holidays with kiddos? The most fun. I love creating traditions and making memories with my family and now that the kids (Kenley in particular) are getting older, I hope that they too will look back on these special moments together.

We spent the first part of our day at my aunt's swimming, snacking, jump roping, etc. followed by naps, dinner, and CBS' fireworks...down the street. We are so lucky to live right next to them!

Here are some photos from our day!

Jump rope lessons from aunt Sheryl

A little double dutch?
Her face here, I love it. Yay for jump roping!

Red white and blue! And more white...on my legs.

Obligatory photo of kids in their patriotic wear and flags. Note: Mom failed to get them patriotic outfits until the day before so she was forced to purchase something with words! Breaking one of her rules.

I still can't believe we made this beauty.

Pool time!

Aunt Sheryl is the most fun.

Attempting to tan. It didn't work.

Snacks poolside.

Velcro baseball! An old favorite of mine. She wanted to play with daddy though since I accidentally threw the ball at her face. GASP!

Watermelon in the shape of stars, obviously.

I made a pie with the girls! Our first! (you my have seen this on snapchat)

The night before when we made it.

Two thumbs up from the adults, two thumbs down from the kids.

Thank you aunt Sheryl and Kelsey for the fun day!

American flag and getting ready for the fireworks!

Two sisters, one chair. We should probably invest in some more next year.

Inched her sister out of it. Eleanor brings her own refreshments for the show.

Snuggles with daddy!

And snuggles with mommy!

Selfie with this blue eyed babe.

Taking a picture of us taking a picture.

John: "It looks like we are actually out in nature."

We weren't!

Selfie with my man!

Simpsons pre-show. Kenley getting ready for the loud fireworks FAR before they were about to start.

More popcorn? Really E? At least it kept her stationary for a moment.

John's attempted photo of E and I watching the fireworks.

Happy Birthday America!
