8 Types of People You Meet at a Luke's Pop Up Diner (in Starbucks Sizes)

Last week myself, along with thousands of others all over the county, fled to Luke's Pop Up Diners in hopes of getting a taste of Stars Hollow. With the much anticipated Gilmore Girls revival (Aaahhh! Is it November 25th yet?!), would we see sleepy Lorelai with a coffee in hand? Rory with her books and oversized sweater? Crazy Kirk and his mother? Or even Luke himself?!

Unfortunately, I didn't see any of these iconic characters from the show. I did, however, meet many interesting characters in line.

8 Types of People You Meet at a Luke's Pop Up Diner (in Starbucks Sizes):

1. Trenta Super Fans - These are the fans that drove over 5 hours because there was no pop ups near them. They called into work, not even lying that they were sick because their entire office knows they are super fans with their desktop countdown to November. They are wearing backwards baseball caps and plaid shirts accompanied by an army green jacket. They are also carrying a Dragonfly Inn tote bag and talking in only GG quotes for 2 hours.

2. Venti Mega Fan - These are super fans that you don't know are super fans unless you play close attention. They have been watching since the beginning but don't want to look totally bonkers with excitement. They probably got there early but not before sunrise early. They are wearing a plaid shirt but tied around their waste as to not bring too much attention to themselves. *Note: this is me.

3. Grande Fan - These are the fans who probably started watching the show a little later in life. Possibly in college with their roommates after bonding over their love for Alexis Bledel in the movie "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants". They won't be extremely devastated if they run out of Luke's coffee sleeves but are hoping to get a glimpse of the pop up.

4. Tall Fan - These are the fans that have watched between 1-3 episodes in syndication. They don't know their Dean from their Jess from their Logan. If you ask them which team they are on, they will likely say "Team Luke" because it's the only male character they know. Also, they will likely get in before the trenta, venti, and grande fans.

5. Short Fan - These are the fans that aren't really fans. They have family or friends that are fans though so they show up to socialize and see the mass frenzy. They come early, dressed in their business casual, and leave before actually seeing the diner so they can get to work.

6. Kid's Size Fan - These fans aren't fans. They have no idea what Gilmore Girls is or why their mom or dad dragged them somewhere to wait in line for coffee for 2 hours. The majority of these kid sized "fans" throw massive tantrums and leave 15-30 minutes after arriving. Except for my kids. My kids are angels and somehow knew the importance of this event.

7. Shot of Espresso Fan - These are fans of all sizes. Trenta, venti, or grande who show up early, realize the line is outrageously long, run home, grab their ukulele, and transform themselves into the town Troubadour. Major respect to these artist fans who made some money and got major exposure.

8. Bring Your Own Mug Fan - These are the fans who aren't fans but rather, cast members. They realize how iconic their show was and show up to various pop up locations. I don't know about the rest of the country, but here in Southern California, Scott Patterson (Luke) showed up to the Beverly Hills location (why did I not drive the extra 30 minutes?!), and Yanic Truesdale (Michele) and Aris Alvarado (Caesar) showed up to the Studio City location.

It was a long morning, full of all types of characters. Characters I love, characters who I have something in common with, and characters who find nothing exciting before 11:00am who were on their way to Reno to buy a poodle and throw their life away for a boy with a motorcycle. I love you, you idiots!

Photos

One block away, 2 hours away.

"Mommy, it looks just like Jasmine's castle!"

Love this little mini and can't wait to watch GG with her one day.
Free donuts were handed out!

Taking a picture of someone else's Luke's coffee sleeve because they ran out.

Troubadour!

Almost there...

Sweaty and tired but we made it!

Oh Luke.

Secret: I took this photo with my cell phone.

They ran out of sleeves but the sweet manager wrote Rory on mine instead.
